They were brought in to do a job and that is what they did. Abingdon United will always be extremely grateful to the management team for what that have done for us but now is the time to move on. We are now seeking to look for a young local manager with contacts to local players. gary ackling hellenicAcko's Back - 28 October

Gary Ackling takes over at the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division strugglers Abingdon United, having resigned as manager of Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West side Wantage last week.

His former assistants at Alfredian Park, Andy Lyne and Rob Wytchard, have also made the switch, with Andy Wallbridge and Ellis Langford stepping down as coaches at Abingdon.

But when I met with John and Debbie Blackmore that’s really what clinched it for me, just their desire to get the club back up into the Southern League.”

Ackling has already started his recruitment drive at Northcourt Road as he seeks to transform the side’s fortunes, bringing in Wantage captain Tom Melledew.
